Things Passed Down

Me?  I've never been a super materialistic person.  I do love books and good music and junk jewelry and old pictures; my husband would say I like shoes, but, no, just to go shoe shopping, that's not me.

The things I really like are passed to me from my husband, children, relatives, and friends.
Like my new swing.  Rick bought the swing online from here.   (If this word is not highlighted, click on the word 'here.')

In the last few years, my mom has been on a quilting spree and has made dozens of quilts for her children and grandchildren.

My granny quilted this nine-patch probably back in the 1950's, I'm guessing.  (It's a good day to air out the quilts!)

This picture was given to us as a Christmas present from Cyndy and Joey.  I like this description of faith.

Salt glass is from Rick's grandmother via my mother-in-law, and the chicken and rooster sat on my grandmother's kitchen shelf all my life.  Mom says that she was very young when she gave them to Grandmother as a gift.

Tell me about some things in your life that you particularly like.   Whatever it is, I promised, I won't laugh.  :)

Have a very wonderful day!

  1. I have a super sentimental side to me. I love hearing the stories and the meanings behind certain things. In my kitchen I have a stack of cookbooks that belonged to my nana and some that even belonged to my great nana. The pages are crumpled and near falling apart. But they make me smile each time I see them.

  2. I came along so late and unexpectedly, all the heirlooms were long passed out. But I like picking up antiques and old kitchenware stuff in secondhand stores and such. Then I get so tired of dusting it I could toss it out the door. I don't think I like anything today:) I like your chickens!

  4. Oh...I like this post. Most of what I have is from family, I have a hard time letting go, because I have a good memory of it. I have some chickens very much like yours, my Mom always kept them in her kitchen window.

  5. My mom gave me all the Hallmark ornaments from when I was a little girl at Christmas. These were the first things that have been passed on to me. I am really looking forward to using them next Christmas. I still have my very first teddy bear. His name is Snuffles and he looks like he has been through a wood chipper thanks to childhood pet, Snoopy the Beagle. Even though Snuffle's nose looks like a seven year old sewed it back on (because a seven year old did) I still love him. I occasionally take him out of the hope chest and sniff him because he still smells like my youth. Is that weird? :o)

  6. ATW - I walked in my mother's house tonight and could 'smell' my dad. He died last June, but I can still smell him. Yeah...strange, isn't it?!
Thank you, everyone, for sharing your special keepsakes with me.

I thank you all who actually read all this stuff and like it. It amazes me, truly. I just shake my head in wonder. (((hugs to all)))
